The National Innovation Agency (NIA) is responsible for implementing the guidelines for a technological and business innovation strategy in Portugal from 2018 to 2030. NIA aims to encourage private investment in research and development (R&D), as well as promoting collaboration between scientific and technological organisations. In addition, it focuses on intensifying the participation of national scientific and technological companies and other entities in international networks and programmes, namely higher education institutions and centres, with a view to promoting their capacities, skills and the results of innovation-oriented policies. It is also responsible for publicising successful cases of Portuguese-based innovation at national and international level, in collaboration with other entities, namely IAPMEI, Aicep Portugal Global and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FST).
