The SME Scoreboard is a flagship study by EUIPO that assesses the attitude towards and the use of intellectual property (IP) by medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the European Union (EU). The main objectives of the Scoreboard are to provide evidence-based contributions and data that enable EU policymakers to shape effective IP enforcement policies and to support innovation and creativity, and to develop initiatives to help innovators, creators and businesses (especially SMEs) protect their IPR. So far, two SME Scoreboard studies were released in 2016 and 2019 and a third one is in preparation and will be published in 2022. The findings from SMEs Scoreboard were at the origin of the creation of the EUIPO SME fund and supportive instruments in the context of the EUIPO SME Programme.
